Eagles Men's Basketball Preview

The Edgewood University Men's Basketball team hits the road to kick off the 2025-26 season Wednesday. They'll look to return to the NACC Tournament with a mix of returning players and new faces.

“We are looking forward to the upcoming season,” said head coach Justin Meyer. “The team has put in a lot of hard work in hope of improving on last year and learning from the experiences we had in so many close games. Physically we are stronger as a team and the chemistry has consistently been positive in practice. I am excited to watch this group compete night in and night out.  I think the effort we will give consistently will be something Eagle fans can be proud of and enjoy watching.”

2025-26 Men's Basketball Schedule

The Eagles open their regular season on the road, once again facing off with the Dubuque Spartans on Wednesday. Their schedule is loaded with strong foes, including seven games against teams featured in the d3hoops.com Division III preseason poll. They'll kick off their home slate with Chicago, ranked 11th in the poll, on Saturday, November 22. UW-Oshkosh, receiving votes, pays a visit to the Todd Wehr Edgedome on Tuesday, November 25.

Edgewood University will head south to open up December and NACC action at Concordia Chicago on Wednesday, December 3. The first of two matchups with receiving votes Concordia Wisconsin awaits on the road on Monday, December 8. No. 11 Carthage will meet the Eagles in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. on Sunday, December 21.

In the new year, the MSOE Raiders, receiving votes in the preseason Top 25, will host Edgewood University on Wednesday, January 14. The Eagles will take on the Falcons at home on Saturday, January 24. They will wrap up their regular season slate with four of five games at home, including a matchup with Wisconsin Lutheran, receiving votes in the preseason poll, on Wednesday, February 18.

“Our non-conference schedule will once again be against some of the regions best in hopes of preparing us for the NACC schedule," said Meyer. "Dubuque is the pre-season ARC favorite; Stevens Point & Oshkosh are top tier WIAC programs. Carthage & Chicago are Top 15 nationally ranked teams and Parkside is an excellent D2 program. The goal is to have us ready to play in a very strong NACC conference. Top to bottom there are no easy nights, and you must be prepared at the highest level for every game. Three teams receiving pre-season ranking votes, shows just how deep the league could be.”

2025-26 Men's Basketball Roster
We have a core group of guys that gained some valuable experience last year in most of their first years playing meaningful minutes. Trent Tousana, Hunter Hardyman, and Payton Bowser are all seniors that have played significant minutes in the past. We will rely on them to help set the tone. Connor Coombs has shown good leadership as a senior. Matt Kirk, AC Strok, Isaiah Hubanks, and Kaleb Walter all made impacts last year with most of them seeing rotation minutes for the first time in their careers. We are looking for that group to step into bigger roles this year and help lead the team.

By the Numbers

3 - Edgewood University returns three of its top five scorers from last year's squad.

2.6 - Tousana led last year's squad with 2.6 assists per game.

8 - A talented mix of freshman and transfers bolster the ranks of the Eagles this season

“Will Gretzinger, Cyle Steffl, Ryan Pavelec, Avery Houden, and Emmett Toijala are sophomores that we are hoping can contribute this season in various roles. Logan Steffensmeir, Zane Willadsen, Trey Keller, & Caleb Poling are all freshman with a lot of promise. Our sophomore and freshman classes have a lot of potential and talent, just need to gain experience. Overall team depth can be a strength if we play an unselfish style of basketball. Ball movement, making the extra pass, and moving without the ball will be key. Communication & ball pressure on defense will be our main priority.”

1.4 - Hunter Hardyman paced the 2024-25 version of men's basketball with 1.4 blocks per game.
