Eagles Men's Basketball Preview

The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team begins its 2023-24 season this week with a home game against University of Chicago on Wednesday. The Eagles are coming off of an 7-18, 7-10 NACC season where they finished just outside of the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament. A good mix of returning players and newcomers enter the fray for the 2023-24 campaign, looking to step up to replace the production of Jake Schroeckenthaler and Caden Nelson. 

“We have really enjoyed being in the gym with this group this season,” said head coach Justin Meyer. “We have some learning to do to understand what it takes to win at the college level but whenever we ask anything of them, they have given their best effort to try and do it. This is a very fun group to coach.”

2023-24 Men's Basketball Schedule

The Eagles open their regular season at the Todd Wehr Edgedome Wednesday, November 15 as they host the University of Chicago. Their nonconference slate features one squad ranked in the preseason d3hoops.com poll, a tilt against no. 25 UW-Oshkosh on Tuesday, November 21st at home. Edgewood College will kick off their NACC campaign with back-to-back home matchups, hosting Marian on Wednesday, November 29 followed by Lakeland on Saturday, December 2. Their conference schedule also features a showdown with the defending champion St. Norbert, receiving votes in the preseason d3hoops.com poll, on Saturday February 10.

“Once again we are going to play one of the best non-conference schedules in the Midwest. Our goal is to learn to compete at the level of those teams and carry that momentum into what will once again be a very difficult and balanced NACC season. It’s a challenging model but one that has rewarded us with post-season berths four of the last six years.”

3 - Three of the top five scorers from last year's team return. Trey Traeder leads all returning players with 9.6 points per game.

2 - The Eagles schedule features a pair of teams named in the d3hoops.com preseason poll, with no. 25 UW-Oshkosh and receiving votes St. Norbert both coming to visit the Edgedome.

50 - A talented group of returners and newcomers will look to replace the production of Jake Schroeckenthaler. He led the team with 21.8 points per game and 10.7 rebounds per game, good for first and second in the conference respectively.
