SPRINGFIELD, OHIO – Men's Volleyball hit the road for the first time in 2025 as they kicked off the Jim Coleman Memorial Invitational in Ohio. They faced off with the Southern Virginia Knights, last year's national runner up and ranked No. 1 in the AVCA Division III Top 20. The Eagles (0-2) battled valiantly with the Knights (1-0) but fell 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-22).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Southern Virginia led 6-4 early, Edgewood College flipped the script with an 8-4 run as the Knights struggled in the service game. Southern Virginia kicked things into gear with a 10-4 response to hold a 20-16 advantage, before landing a knockout blow with a 5-1 follow-up that featured three kills and an ace.
- The Knights jumped out to a 5-2 edge to set the tone in the second frame. They would build up to a 17-10 edge as the Eagles struggled to find answers. Southern Virginia would control most of the set, leading by as much as nine as they claimed a 2-0 match lead.
- The third set kicked off with the two teams battling back and forth, but a kill from
Landon Sheridan followed by an ace from
Gavin Patterson put Edgewood College ahead 7-5. The Knights responded with an 8-2 sprint in the middle of the frame for a 16-12 advantage. The Eagles clawed back to a 19-19 tie on a 6-2 answer to keep pace, but the Southern Virginia offense sealed the sweep with five kills and an ace on a 6-3 stretch.
- The Knights had a .458 hitting percentage on the match and seven aces, while Edgewood College posted a .250 attack percentage and three aces.
- Christian Sheaffer paced Southern Virginia in kills (13) and aces (four). He matched the team high with two blocks.
- Maxym Sutton and Gehrig Tolman teamed up to fuel a high-flying offense with 16 and 15 assists respectively.

Ryder Hill-Zastrow led the way for the Eagles with six kills.
Carsyn Stringfellow posted five kills.

Will Gehrke played a central part in the effort with 20 assists and four digs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The match was the first time the two schools have met in men's volleyball.
- Stringfellow's five kills were a career best with Edgewood College.

The Eagles will return to action tomorrow in Ohio. They'll face off with Randolph at 11 a.m. ET and host Wittenberg at 5:00 p.m. ET. They will be the first matches in program history against both schools.
