Eagles stay perfect, take down Green Knights, Muskies to remain lone NACC unbeaten

MADISON – The Edgewood College Eagles women's tennis squad hosted a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) matches at Quann Park Sunday. They faced off with the Lakeland Muskies and the St. Norbert Green Knights. The Eagles (8-0, 5-0 NACC) dominated the Muskies (0-5, 0-6) in 7-0 fashion. In the afternoon showdown, Edgewood College took down the Green Knights (4-2, 4-1) 6-1 in a match of NACC unbeatens.
 
MATCH ONE: EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 7, LAKELAND 0
- The Eagles set the tone for the afternoon by dropping only two points in doubles. Kathryn Lauger and Emma Dillon teamed up for a 6-0 sweep in third billing. Hattie Plenty and Madelyn Connaughty clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 showing in the second slot.
 
- Marissa Light and Evelyn Taylor paired up for a 6-1 victory in no. 1 doubles.
 
- Lauger and Dillon continued their strong days into singles. Both earned 6-0, 6-0 victories in no. 4 and no. 6 singles respectively.

- Taylor clinched the victory with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in top billing.
   
- Cassie Henderson shined in second billing with a 6-1, 6-0 final. Christina Ekkela followed it up in the third slot with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
 
- Sarah Emory wrapped up the clean sweep in 6-0, 6-2 fashion.
 
MATCH TWO: EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 6, ST. NORBERT 1
- Victories in first and second doubles had the Eagles rolling in the second match of the day. Light and Taylor claimed a 6-1 victory in top doubles, while Plenty and Connaughty clinched the point with a 6-2 victory in no. 2 doubles.
 
- Ekkela and Henderson dropped a 6-3 final in third doubles.
 
- Taylor started things off in singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in no. 1 singles. Light fell 6-3, 6-3 in second billing as Edgewood College held a 2-1 advantage.
 
- Ekkela got the Eagles back on track in no. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-0 victory. Connaughty clinched the victory for Edgewood College with a 6-2, 6-4 win in fourth billing.
   
- Plenty continued her strong day with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in no. 6 singles. Henderson wrapped things up by rallying for a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4) final tally in third singles.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles are 19-0 all-time against the Muskies.
 
- Edgewood College holds a 9-5 series lead against St. Norbert and has won seven straight over their conference foe.
 
- The 8-0 start is the Eagles' best start since 2020-21.
 
- With the victory over the Green Knights, Edgewood College is the only remaining unbeaten in the NACC.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles will return to action next Saturday. They'll take on Alverno before battling it out in a NACC showdown with defending champion Concordia Wisconsin. First serve against the Falcons is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
