VERONA – The Edgewood College Eagles baseball squad continued their busy stretch of play with a nonconference stop Friday night. They played host to the UW-Platteville Pioneers at Stampfl Field. The Pioneers (8-13) used steady offense and took advantage of mistakes from the Eagles (12-9) to win 13-3 in seven innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Nate Bacskai and
Kody Kleve held the UW-Platteville bats in check through the first three innings, but the Pioneers got on the board in the fourth. A single to center field brought home a run, while a two-run home run to right field left it 3-0 UW-Platteville after four.
- While a single through the left side in the top of the fifth made it 4-0 Pioneers, Edgewood College closed within striking distance in the bottom of the inning.
Dominic Lee brought in two runs with a single to center field, then a
Kyle Sagan sacrifice fly to right field put the Eagles within a run.
- UW-Platteville broke the game wide open in the sixth. An Edgewood College error kicked off the scoring with a pair of runs before a sacrifice fly to center field made it 7-3. A single to left field and a fielder's choice to second base made it 9-3 Pioneers.
- A big seventh inning put the run rule into play for UW-Platteville. A RBI single to right field and a sacrifice fly to center field were joined by a RBI single to right field and a fielder's choice to second base to leave the visitors ahead 13-3. The Eagles were unable to plate any runs in the seventh to close out the game.
