DE PERE, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team fell to St. Norbert College 59-46 in the NACC Tournament Semifinal. The Green Knights took advantage of a fourth quarter surge and third quarter defense to overcome the Eagles. Edgewood College took a 29-27 lead into halftime, shooting over 50 percent from the floor in the first two quarters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (15-12) came out the gate strong, matching the St. Norbert (18-9) attack at every step and matching the Green Knights on defense. A three-point make from Jayden Nortier tied the game at 15 a piece going into the second quarter.
- The Eagles outscored the Green Knights in the second quarter to take a 29-27 lead into halftime. Edgewood College went on a 9-2 run to open the quarter and lead by seven points with 5:58 on the clock. Another three-pointer from Nortier combined with a layup from Vivian Guerrero in the final minutes gave the Eagles the momentum into the break.
- The third quarter was a defensive battle, with both teams scoring in single-digits after halftime. St. Norbert held the Eagles to just five points in the quarter and took a 36-32 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.
- The Green Knights turned on the shooting in the final quarter, scoring 23 points and shooting a game-high 61.54 percent (8-of-13) from the floor.
- Jayden Nortier led the Eagles with 12 points. Vivian Guerrero notched 10 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Ava Berg recorded nine points and pulled down four rebounds.
- Edgewood College shot 40.5 percent (17-of-42) from the floor on Friday evening, including 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from beyond the arc.
- Turnovers made the difference, as the Eagles amassed 23 turnovers compared to just five from the Green Knights.
THE OPPOSITION
- Casey Jepson led the Green Knights with 18 points, shooting 7-for-10 from the floor.
- Taylor Thiry added 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
