Edgewood College emerges victorious in battle of Eagles versus Northwestern (MN)

MADISON – The Edgewood College Eagles women's tennis squad found themselves locked in a thriller Saturday. They faced off with the Northwestern (MN) Eagles in a non-conference showdown. Edgewood College (10-3) came out on top 5-4 against Northwestern (MN) (1-2).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cecile Fuchs and Evelyn Taylor kicked things off on the right foot in top doubles billing, winning 8-4. Cassie Henderson and Christina Ekkela earned an 8-4 victory as the no. 3 pair. Jewel Lindwall and Madelyn Connaughty fell just shy of a clean doubles sheet for the hosts, falling in 8-7 (7-4) fashion.
 
- Fuchs continued to shine, claiming a 6-3, 6-2 win in no. 1 singles. Lindwall ended up on the wrong side of a close 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) decision in second billing. Taylor rolled in third singles 6-4, 6-0 to give Edgewood College a 4-2 edge.
 
-  Ekkela found herself locked in a bitterly fought 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) decision she conceded. Her doubles partner Henderson clinched the match for Edgewood College in fifth billing 7-5, 6-1.
 
- Connaughty lost in 6-1, 6-2 fashion in the sixth slot to wrap up the afternoon.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The victory for Edgewood College evened the series 2-2.
 
UP NEXT
Edgewood College will return to action in March. They will kick off their Spring Break trip on Sunday, March 10 against the College of St. Scholastica, time to be announced.
