RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team returned to their high-powered offensive ways on Tuesday afternoon at Concordia Chicago. The Eagles earned their sixth-straight win via a 6-1 final over the Cougars. Five different Eagles scored in the conference win, including senior Miguel Konde Gwo who set the single season record for goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (15-1-2, 9-0-1 NACC) turned on the jets in the 26th minute, as Cristian Torres-Gale broke through to score the Eagles goal. Conor Bruce assisted on the first Eagle goal of the afternoon.
- Connor Gage netted his 16th goal of the season to give Edgewood College a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute.
- Konde Gwo scored his record-breaking 17th goal of the season in the 32nd minute to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead into halftime.
- Brandon Hough got on the board for the Eagles just three minutes into the second half. Hough scoring via penalty kick goal.
- The Eagles would go on to score twice more for six unanswered goals. Torres-Gale netted his ninth of the season in the 50th minute, followed by a goal by Noah Hook in the 57th minute.
- Michael Senese scored the lone goal for Concordia Chicago (4-11-0, 3-8-0 NACC) in the 61st minute.
- Edgewood College outshot Concordia Chicago 23-10 in the final. 14 of the Eagles shots were on target.
- Maverick Van Laanen made the start in net for the Eagles, collecting two saves. Griffin Meisterheim started the second half of action, making two saves.
- Nethan Gudiel and Kyle Schultz both saw time in net for the Cougars. Gudiel making six saves on the afternoon.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Konde Gwo moves past Garrett Lee to claim the single-season goals record. Lee's previous mark of 16 goals was set in the 2017 season.
- Gage and Konde Gwo will battle it out for the single-season points record. Gage leads with 44 points (16 goals, 12 assists), while Konde Gwo is just behind with 43 (17 goals, 9 assists) of his own.
- 15 wins are now tied for second best in program history. The wins total is the highest since the 2000 season. The Eagles single-season wins record is set at 16 by the 1996 team.
- The Eagles lead the all-time series versus Concordia Chicago 18-1.
