FOND DU LAC, WIS. – The Edgewood College Eagles men's basketball squad wrapped up their road trip Saturday. They faced off with Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) foe Marian. The Sabres (1-12, 1-6 NACC) were buoyed by 21 turnovers from the Eagles (6-8, 5-3) as well as a strong start on route to a 53-48 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marian jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game that ballooned into a 21-8 edge at the 9:50 mark. Edgewood College closed within 26-23 with 3:14 remaining thanks to a 15-5 rally capped by three three-pointers in a row from
Trey Traeder. A pair of buckets for the Sabres would send them into the locker room up 30-23.
- The lead proved to be stubborn in the second half. Marian would lead by 46-35 with 6:54 remaining, but cold shooting was the story from both sides in he second half. An 11-2 rally from the Eagles put them within striking distance at 52-48 with a
Drew Houtakker three-pointer at 2:01. Neither team would record a field goal before the clock hit zero, a lone free throw acting as insurance for the hosts.
- Edgewood College recorded 21 turnovers on the afternoon, which the Sabres capitalized on with a 22-10 edge on points off turnovers.
- The Eagles had a 46-34 advantage on rebounds.
- JeanLuc Wilson earned the lone double-double of the day with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Gavin Johns tallied nine points and four steals.
- Traeder led both teams with 15 points.
- Houtakker finished with eight points and eight rebounds, while
Danny Mulcare added eight rebounds.
