ST PAUL, Minn. – Madi Johnson broke a 2-2 tie in the 87th minute, leading the Edgewood College women's soccer team to a season opening victory over Hamline University. Timely goals from Marley Satran and Rylee Brotz set the Eagles up for the thrilling non-conference victory. The win is the Eagles first season opening victory since the 2020 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (1-0) scored first, as Marley Satran netted her first goal of the season in the 10th minute.
- Hamline (0-1) quickly responded with two straight goals from Maya Dempsey.
- Despite going into halftime down 2-1, the Eagles never wavered. They came out of the half and outshot the Pipers 9-6.
- Rylee Brotz added the tying goal in the 75th minute. Brotz was assisted by Madi Johnson.
- Newcomer Johnson made her mark as an Eagle scoring the winning goal with just under four minutes remaining. Johnson netted her first goal as an Eagle on a free kick that went off the top of the Hamline goalkeepers' fingertips.
- Brotz led the Eagles with four shots, two on goal.
- Hailey Hartel and Hailey Corcoran split time in goal, both making two saves.
