MEQUON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles baseball squad entered another elimination game at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament Saturday. They faced off with the Aurora Spartans, ranked sixth nationally. The Eagles (26-18) fell 8-2 to the Spartans (37-4) as their run in the conference tournament came to an end.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Unearned runs helped Aurora get off to a four-run first inning. A single to right field sent home two unearned, while a follow-up single to right center scored another. A runner caught stealing at second allowed another runner to touch home plate. Edgewood College got into bases loaded trouble in the second, with a hit by pitch and a walk tallying two, to go down 6-0.
- The Eagles settled things down as both teams went three scoreless innings. Edgewood College broke through in the sixth with a
Cooper Holewinski single to the pitcher putting them on the board. A single to center field and a fielder's choice in the eighth wrapped up the Spartans scoring.
Kyle Prindle singled in a run through the right side in the eighth.
- Nick Malmberg earned the win, holding Edgewood College to two runs in seven innings pitched.

Connor Goodwin consistently got on base, hitting four-of-five with a run. Prindle swung two-of-four with an RBI.

Ryan Mixey tossed six innings in relief. He fanned four Aurora batters and allowed only four hits.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Spartans won all four meetings against the Eagles this season and holds a 28-10 advantage in the series.
- The game marked the second straight time Edgewood College has made it to day three of the NACC Tournament.

Joseph Kalafut's 44th game started and played this season. The games started are tied for third with
Alex Prindle (2022) and Jimy Landwehr (2010) and games played tied with both of the aforementioned players and Steven Binder (2010).

With the loss, the Eagles wrapped up their 2023 season. Their 26 wins were tied for fourth-most in program history and the most since the 2010 season. The team saw several records fall on the year, with Kalafut breaking the career home runs mark, previously held by Tim Berry (2009-10), Travis Krahn's career doubles mark (2001-04) and Ryan O'Dell''s (2011-2014) career games played and started threshold. Kalafut also broke the single-season walks record, held by
Alex Prindle (2022), and career walks, previously held by Matt Saltzberry (1999-02). Sagan broke the single-season runs record set previously by Jimy Landwehr (2010). Goodwin set a new record for most steals in a season, snapping Karl Reynolds' (2006) previous best.
