MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College women's basketball team dropped their regular-season finale, 86-70 to St. Norbert College on Saturday. The Eagles mounted a comeback, but three-point shooting in the final quarter from the Green Knights was too much to handle. Three Eagles finished in double-digit scoring, with Paige Banks and Vivian Guerrero both recording double-doubles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- St. Norbert College (22-3, 18-0 NACC) came out of the gate strong, taking an early 8-2 lead through the first three minutes of action. Edgewood College (14-11, 11-7 NACC) battled back, and scored 13 in the final five minutes to trail the Green Knights by just 11 (28-17). Â
- The best stretch for Edgewood College came in the second quarter. They trailed by 11 points coming into the quarter and outscore the Green Knights 21-9 to take a one point (38-37) lead into halftime. The Eagles went on a 17-5 run to being the quarter and shot a game-high 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from the floor. Eden Bonser scored 11 of the Eagles points to being the quarter and was aided in scoring efforts by Paige Banks and Vivian Guerrero.
- The Eagles biggest lead came with 9:40 on the clock in the third quarter, as a layup out of the locker room gave Edgewood College a 40-37 advantage. St. Norbert outscored the Eagles 21-16 in the third quarter and took a four-point lead (58-54) into the final quarter.
- The Green Knights found their stride in the fourth quarter, shooting a game-high 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from the floor and 60 percent (6-of-10) from beyond the arc. St. Norbert went on a nine-point scoring run with 7:48 left on the clock and never looked back. Â
- Banks finished with a 22-point, 10 rebound double-double. Guerrero added a 16-point, 15 rebound double-double. Bonser recorded 18 points and six rebounds. Guerrero tied her career-best of five blocks.
- Edgewood College finished the game shooting 44.8 percent (26-of-58) from the floor, while St. Norbert made 42.7 percent (32-of-75). One of the biggest differences for the Green Knights was three-point shooting. St. Norbert went 6-of-10 from beyond the arc in the fourth period and finished the game shooting 41.7 percent (15-of-36) from long. Edgewood College finished with five makes from beyond the arc, 35.7 percent (5-of-14).
THE OPPOSITION
- Four Green Knights scored in double-figures on Saturday. Kaycee Gierczak led the way with 18 points and added eight rebounds. Olivia DeCleene and Natalie Cerrato each recorded 17 points. Cerrato went 5-for-6 from beyond the arc and added nine rebounds and nine assists. Taylor Thiry added 10 points.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College wraps up the regular season earning a spot in the NACC Tournament for the fourth-straight season. The Eagles will be the No. 6 seed in the NACC Tournament, and head to No. 3 seeded Aurora for a first-round game.
- The Eagles celebrated the careers of Emma Klein and Sydney Ignoffo on Saturday, as they played their final home game in an Eagles uniform.
