Fighting Scots defeat Eagles in nonconference affair

WOOSTER, OHIO – The Edgewood College Eagles men's basketball squad hit the road for the E.M. "Mose" Hole/Wooster Kiwanis Classic Friday night. They faced off with the host Wooster Fighting Scots in their opening game. The Eagles (4-7) hung tough with the Fighting Scots (5-6) with sharp shooting in the first half, but Wooster pulled away with a strong second half in an 84-61 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wooster had control of the first five minutes with a 10-5 lead, but Edgewood College caught a hot hand beyond the arc for an 11-1 rally to flip the lead 16-11 in their favor at 11:49 in the half.

- The Fighting Scots bounced back with a 10-4 run in the middle of the frame to tie things up 25-25. A Trey Traeder three-pointer blunted their momentum, but Wooster replied with eight straight to help them enter the locker room up 33-30.

- Three-point shooting helped the Eagles kept pace in the first 20 minutes. They shot 5-of-14 from beyond the arc.

- After holding steady for the first few minutes of the second half, the Fighting Scots began to pull away from the Eagles. The remaining first half of the final frame were all hosts, Wooster taking a commanding 58-44 lead off the back of a 17-6 stretch. The Fighting Scots would lead by as many as 24 points down the stretch as they rode a commanding second half to victory.

- Nick Everett was efficient with his double-double for Wooster. He shot 6-of-7 from the field and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe to finish with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jamir Billings tallied a game-high 22 points, while Ashton Price and JJ Cline rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 and 10 points respectively.

- Traeder led Edgewood College with 14 points, including 4-of-7 three-point shooting. Drew Houtakker scored 13 and grabbed four rebounds.

- The Fighting Scots made the most of Eagles turnovers and in the paint. They held a 14-to-2 advantage in points off of turnovers in the second half and a overall 50-to-20 lead in points in the paint.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The meeting was the first time the two schools have met in men's basketball.
