Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Aggressive Falcons ground Eagles in home tilt

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles men's basketball squad wrapped up the 2023 portion of their home slate at the Todd Wehr Edgedome Wednesday. They hosted the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons in more Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) action. The Falcons (2-8, 2-3 NACC) used their size and aggression to their advantage as they downed the Eagles (3-6, 3-2) in 63-54 fashion.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The affair was a low-scoring one throughout. Edgewood College controlled the first 10 minutes, a 7-2 rally giving them a 14-10 edge at 12:28.

- After the squads exchanged one-possession leads for the next nine minutes, Concordia Wisconsin hit a three at 1:56 to give them their largest lead of the evening at 29-26. A three from Trey Traeder would wrap up the scoring in the frame and send the visitors into the locker room up 29-26.

- The Falcons held strong advantages in points off turnovers (10-to-5) and fast break points (9-to-0) in the half.

- The Eagles hung around in the first six minutes of the second half, but Concordia Wisconsin's style of play eventually hit on a 8-3 rally for a 47-40 lead with 11:38 left to play. Edgewood College fought back with a 9-3 response to force a visitor's timeout at 8:35

- Edgewood College's offense went cold, scoreless in the last 5:24 of play. The Falcons stymied the Eagles at every turn to grind out a 9-0 finisher to head home with a win.

- Drew Houtakker was the lone Edgewood College player in double figures. He scored 18 points alongside five rebounds, three assists, and a pair of blocks.

- Dawson Hughes came up big with his own aggressive plays, tallying six steals, seven rebounds, and four assists, all team bests.

- Four Concordia Wisconsin players finished with double-digit points. Sam Meerstein led the way with 14 points and nine rebounds.

= Zach Leahy brought down a game-high 10 rebounds for the Falcons.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Hughes' six steals were tied for second on the single game record books. Former teammate Caden Nelson was the last to reach the mark against Wisconsin Lutheran (December 3, 2023).

- Concordia Wisconsin has won back-to-back outings against the Eagles, though Edgewood College holds a 40-38 lead in the all-time series.
