RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College Eagles hit the road as they continued their trek through their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) slate Tuesday evening. They played at the Dominican Stars down south. The Eagles (5-15, 5-7 NACC) extended their winning streak to four as they used a good first half and 31 points from
Jake Schroeckenthaler to win 78-73 over the Stars (6-14, 1-12 NACC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Four unanswered points by Edgewood College would give them a 12-8 lead at the 15:44 mark. The margin proved to be stubborn, lasting until a 6-2 Dominican rally featuring a pair of steals left the Stars in the driver's seat with a 20-18 advantage at 9:25
- The Eagles would take a sledgehammer to Dominican in the next 6 and a half minutes, a 17-2 bombardment capped off by a Trae Traeder three at 2:56 leaving them in prime position at 35-22. A last-second three pointer would send the two squads into the locker room with Edgewood College up 37-28.
- The Eagles shot 53.13 (17-of-32) percent from the field in the first half, well outpacing the Stars 36.36 (12-of-33) percent shooting.
- Dominican would bounce back in the early minutes of the second half, putting together a 10-0 rally coupled with their three-pointer to end the first to cut down the Edgewood College lead to 37-35. The Eagles replied by attacking the paint in a 9-2 run to hold the Stars off at 15:58 with a 46-39 lead.
- The next five minutes would be almost all Dominican. A 14-5 run gave them their first lead since 9:25 in the first, capped off by a three-pointer at 10:44 putting them ahead 53-51 and forcing a timeout.
- Edgewood College would collect themselves and continue to dominate the paint to fuel a 11-2 response in just over two minutes of game time to put themselves up 62-55 at 8:12. The Stars' last best chance came with seven unanswered tying the game up 68 apiece with 4:18 remaining, but the Eagles replied with six unanswered to push Dominican back and outlast them to the finish line.
- Schroeckenthaler tabbed 31 points and 10 rebounds.
Caden Nelson and
Trey Traeder earned 11 and 10 points respectively, while nabbing two and three steals apiece.
Drew Houtakker fell just short of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
- Four Stars finished with double-digit points, Andrew Bennett leading the way with 18 points. Joshua west finished with 11 points and seven assists, while Jacob Riedl did a bit of everything with 11 points, four steals, and seven rebounds.
- Edgewood College put together an impressive rebounding performance with a 46-29 advantage in the category, while scoring 52 of their 78 in the paint. Turnovers kept Dominican around as they held a 20-10 lead in points off of turnovers.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Schroeckenthaler's 31 points was his season best and his double-double was his 11th of the 2022-23 campaign.
- The Eagles are now 28-8 against the Stars since 1987-88 and have won six in a row.
- The victory was Edgewood College's fourth in a row.

The Eagles return to the Todd Wehr Edgedome for their penultimate home game of the season Saturday. They host the Marian Sabres with first tip scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Edgewood College holds a 48-35 series lead since 1972-73, but lost the 2021-22 matchup.
