MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College women's basketball team locked down their fifth straight victory, hanging on for an 89-79 victory over Lakeland University. The win makes Chaia Huff the school's all-time winningest women's basketball coach as she gained her 84th victory of her career. Huff, now 84-78 (.518) in seven seasons at Edgewood College, passes Casey Thousand, who coached the Eagles to 83 wins from 2009-16 (83-97).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (10-7, 7-3 NACC) saw one of their strongest offensive efforts of the season on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles got off to a speedy start, shooting 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from the floor in the first quarter, which resulted in 24 points. The Eagles went on a seven-point scoring run through the beginning of the first period. Ultimately, Lakeland University (8-9, 6-4 NACC) came storming back, but the Eagles took a four point (24-20) lead into the second quarter.
- The Eagles continued to build their lead through the second quarter, collecting 20 points and building a seven-point lead at halftime.
- Coming out of the break, Edgewood College continued their hot shooting, connecting on 10-of-17 (58.8 percent) from the floor in the third quarter. The Eagles also held the Muskies to just 17 points and eliminated their three-point shooting.
- The biggest lead of the afternoon came in the final 10 minutes, as a three-point make from Kenzie Senffner gave the Eagles a 17-point (71-54) advantage. The Muskies recorded their best shooting performance through the final ten minutes. Lakeland scored a game-high 25 points and shot 60 percent (12-of-20) from the floor, but it was too little too late, as the Eagles held on for the victory.
- Four Eagles scored in double figures on the afternoon, with Banks leading the way scoring 29 points. The junior went 11-for-17 from the floor and 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. Vivian Guerrero and Emma Klein weren't far behind, compiling 15 points each. Guerrero was almost perfect, connecting on 7-of-8 from the floor and 1-of-2 from the charity stripe. Klein was perfect knocking down 6-of-6 free throws. Senffner added an impressive 13-point, 11 assist double-double.
- Guerrero pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, while Senffner added seven rebounds of her own.
- The Eagles shot 55.9 percent (33-of-59) from the floor, their second best mark this season.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Chaia Huff, the 13th head coach in Edgewood College women's basketball history now owns the title of all-time winningest coach. The Eagles win over Lakeland gave Huff her 84th victory at Edgewood College, passing 83 collected by Casey Thousand over seven seasons.
- Banks collected a career-high 29 points, passing her previous best of 21 set against UW-Oshkosh on November 15.
- Senffner shared the ball well, dishing out a career-best 11 assists. Her mark puts her in a tie for ninth most assists in a single-game.
THE OPPOSITION
- Three Muskies finished in double-digits on the afternoon. Mackenzie Miller led the way with 19 points, while Ellie Felsinger added 18 points and Kacey Gardner notched 12 points. Gardner added a game-high nine rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.
