MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Consistent attack proved to be key on Sunday, as second half goals from Mandy Fitzgerald and Lauren Nachreiner gave the Edgewood College Women's Soccer team their first victory of the season over Cornell College. The Eagles outshot the Rams 19-4 in the non-conference win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Edgewood College (1-1-0) offense proved strong on Sunday afternoon, taking a total of 19 shots, eight on goal. The Eagles defense worked well to keep the Rams attack at bay, only allowing four shots, two on goal.
- Despite taking nine shots in the first half, the Eagles didn't score their first goal of the contest until after the break. Mandy Fitzgerald scored the first Edgewood College goal, converting a pass from Leah Doucette in the 53rd minute.
- With just under 16 minutes remaining in the contest, Lauryn Nachreiner gave the Eagles some breathing room. The sophomore found the back of the net to put the Eagles up 2-0.
- Overall, Kristen Palmer and Greta Blau led the offensive charge, taking five and four shots, respectively.
- Kailey Adamski earned her first collegiate in just her second start in goal. Adamski recorded two saves in the victory. Krystin Kamrath and Sabrina Ibanez split time in net for the Rams, both notching three saves.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- This is just the third time the Eagles and Rams have met. Edgewood College leads the series 3-0, with the last win coming in 2017, a 1-0 victory.
