VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team has recorded a clean sheet since Thursday, September 1 and hasn't looked back. The Eagles rolled past Concordia Chicago on Saturday, with a 4-0 shutout victory. Edgewood College hasn't allowed a goal in six-straight games, a credit to an incredibly strong defensive line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mandy Fitzgerald got things going for Edgewood College (5-1-1, 1-0-1 NACC) finding the back of the net in the 25th minute. Fitzgerald converted a shot off the goal post from Greta Blau. The Eagles 1-0 lead would stand through the rest of the first half.
- Greta Blau notched the second Eagles goal, her third of the season in the 63rd minute. Just four minutes later, Rylee Brotz would notch the Eagles third goal of the match, assisted by both Kristen Palmer and Leah Doucette.
- The Eagles fourth and final goal came in the 79th minute, as Grace Johnson put a penalty kick in the bottom right of the net and solidified the victory.
- The Eagles outshot the Cougars 25-5, with 10 shots on goal. Blau led the Eagles with six shots, two on goal. Fitzgerald and Luecke each added three shots of their own. 12 different Eagles took a shot in the victory.
- Hailey Corcoran recorded the win in goal for Edgewood College, collecting three saves. Her counterpart from the Cougars, Kassie Silenzi, recorded five saves.
- Edgewood College led possession time 59 percent to 41 percent. The Eagles spent 72 percent of the contest in the Cougars half of the pitch.
