WAVERLY, Iowa – The Edgewood College Women's Tennis team won five-of-six in singles play to earn a 7-2 non-conference victory over Wartburg College on Sunday. Ellie Murphy, Maddy Coopmans, and Madelyn Connaughty each finished the day undefeated.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (11-6) won two-of-three in doubles play. The No. 2 duo of Jewel Lindwall and Murphy battled to an 8-5 victory. Coopmans and Connaughty earned a close 8-6 win in the No. 3 doubles slot.
- In singles play, Fuchs finished off her day with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory. Fuchs is now 17-2 on the season from the No. 1 singles slot, and has won nine straight for the Eagles.
- Ally Verbauwhede posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles, while Murphy (6-2, 6-2), Coopmans (6-0, 6-2), and Connaughty (4-6, 6-0, 10-7) earned singles wins.
UP NEXT
- The Eagles will turn their focus to the NACC Tournament which is set to begin next week. As the No. 1 seed, Edgewood College will face whoever is the lowest remaining seed in the NACC Semifinals next Thursday, May 5. Action will take place at Quann Park.
