VERONA, Wis. – Elizabeth Malarski tossed a no-hitter in game two and
Tatum Duff added a shutout of her own in the opener as the Edgewood College Softball team made quick work of Alverno College in Monday's home-opening doubleheader at Ceniti Park. The Eagles won the opener 13-0 before posting a 10-0 win in game two. Both games ended in the fifth via the eight-run rule.
EAGLES 13, INFERNO 0 (GAME ONE)
- Duff allowed just two hits in the opener, striking out five batters in her fourth win of the year. It was the second complete-game shutout of the season for Duff as well, the other coming March 17 against Wesleyan. Duff faced one over the minimum in her five innings as Alverno (0-6, 0-2 NACC) never had a runner in scoring position in either game.
- The Eagles (9-9, 2-0 NACC) bats adjusted well to the cold temperatures as they scored all 13 runs in their first three trips to the plate. Home runs by
Haylee Kasuboski,
Olivia Hebert, and
Mackenzie Doherty highlighted the offensive performance. Hebert went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored, Doherty was 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored and Kasuboski finished with two RBI in the 13-0 win.
- Kasuboski put the Eagles on the board in the first, belting a two-run home run over the right center field wall, plating her and
Alyse Maurer. The Eagles then scored four runs in the bottom of the second, three coming off Hebert's blast to right center.
- In the seven-run third, Doherty hit her three-run home run.
Alyse Maurer added an RBI single in the frame, as did Hebert. Maurer finished the game 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a double. Nine different Eagles scored in the win, including Malarski who crossed home twice.
EAGLES 10, INFERNO 0 (GAME TWO)
- Malarski was the story in the nightcap with her no-hit performance in her first-ever home start. Nine of her 15 outs were recorded via strikeout as she was in complete control. The only batter to reach for the Inferno came in the second inning via a walk. She struck out the next three batters to close out the second after the leadoff walk.
- The Eagles collected 10 hits in the second game, two each from Maurer and Malarski. Maurer went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.
Grace Ott and Kasuboski added doubles, Kasuboski's giving the Eagles the lead in the bottom of the first.
- Edgewood College did all its damage in the first two innings, plating two runs in the first and eight in the second. Alverno's shaky defense aided the second-inning as all five of the Inferon's miscues came during that frame.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles are off to a strong start in NACC play with the 2-0 record. Edgewood College has already surpassed its NACC win total from a season ago, although the Eagles only played South schools last year. The nine overall wins matches the Eagles total from 2021 as well.
UP NEXT
- The Eagles are scheduled to visit Lakeland on Wednesday for a NACC doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
