Eagles push winning streak to four with win over Firebirds

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Edgewood College Baseball team mounted an offense packed comeback against Carthage College on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles trailed 3-0 before coming back for a 13-3 victory in seven innings. Kyle Jungers pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the Edgewood College (5-4) team down 3-0 the bats came alive, tacking on six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a confident 6-3 lead. Joseph Kalafut got things going for the Eagles, scoring Kyle Sagan from first base on a double to right center field. Edgewood College would score two more runs on a single off the bat of Adam Cairo. Runs four and five of the inning came off a double from Connor Goodwin, and Max Hoeser scored the Eagles sixth run after taking advantage of an error from the Firebirds.

- The Eagles would go on to tack on runs in the final three innings of the game, with four runs coming in the sixth inning.

- The Edgewood College defense and Jungers were automatic in the field through the final four innings. Jungers notched four strikeouts and only allowed one earned run through his seven innings of work. Strong pitching and confident fielding helped the Eagles earn the run-rule victory, including a big double play by Jacob Slonim and Kyle Semrad in to get out of the sixth inning.

- The trio of Kalafut, Cairo, and Semrad notched two hits each in the victory. Slonim scored three runs, collected one hit and an RBI. Kyle Sagan drew four walks and scored two runs for the Eagles.

- This is the first Eagles victory over Carthage College (3-8), as the two have not met since 1998. In the previous two meetings the Firebirds have come away with the victory.
