Eagles Drop Two Saturday in Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss. – The Edgewood College Baseball team fell in a pair of games in the season-opening weekend in Jackson, Mississippi. The Eagles dropped the opener to MUW, 4-3, before being blanked by Eureka College, 4-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (0-3) played two games on Saturday because of the projected forecast for Sunday. They started with the originally scheduled game against MUW, a 4-3 setback. The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead and that lead held until the Owls (2-6) scored three times in the bottom of the seventh.

- The Eagles rallied to tie the game in the top of the ninth when Kyle Sagan drove in Ryan Ambrosy. Unfortunately, the Owls answered with a run in the bottom of the ninth via a walk-off single by Blake Estabrook, plating Thomas Tucker.

- Cooper Holewinski and Joseph Kalafut paced the Eagles at the plate against MUW. Kalafut collected three hits, including a double. Holewinski went 2-for-4 with two-RBI, a two-RBI single in the first inning.

- Six different Eagles toed the rubber in the first game of the day. Kyle Jungers and Leo Stone combined for six shutout frames to start, each tossing three scoreless innings.

- In the nightcap, Edgewood College couldn't solve the Eureka's pitching in a 4-0 setback. Parker Brodine went seven innings, scattering five hits with three strikeouts before handing the ball off to Trevor Wingard, who threw two scoreless innings to secure the shutout.

- A Jimmy Peterson home run gave Eureka a 2-0 lead in the fourth. They added two runs in the eighth for the 4-0 final.

- Jackson DeChristina and Maximo Alanis each collected two hits to pace the Eagles offense.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- While the results weren't what they were hoping for, the Eagles battled in their first time outside this season. The Eagles team ERA of 3.55 over the three games was especially promising with 13 different pitchers being used over the first three games.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will head to Alabama next weekend for three games at Huntingdon College. The first of those games will be Friday night at 6 p.m.
