Eagles Stunned by Spartans in Regular-Season Finale

MADISON, Wis. – Aurora University stole an inbounds pass and made a layup with less than 10 seconds left and Edgewood College couldn't convert on its final possession as the Eagles were stunned by Aurora in Wednesday's regular season finale. The 75-74 loss snapped a nine-game home winning streak for the Eagles, who will now be the No. 8 seed in the upcoming NACC Tournament.

SPARTANS 75, EAGLES 74
- Edgewood College (10-13, 9-7 NACC) led 74-73 and had the ball out of bounds with 10 seconds left. The Eagles couldn't get the inbounds pass in as Shamar Pumphrey deflected the pass to the corner and saved it right to Justin Wilson who was under the hoop for a wide-open layup to put the Spartans (5-17, 4-12 NACC) up 75-74 with six seconds left.

- The Eagles opted not to call a timeout as Aurora was scrambling back on defense, but the Spartans made another great defensive play, a block at the rim by Robert Roskiewicz to steal Wednesday's NACC game.

- It was a back-and-forth game for much of the second half, but it appeared Edgewood College would get the win, going up 74-69 with 1:37 left after a jumper from Jake Schroeckenthaler. Aurora scored the final six points, snapping the Eagles home winning streak.

- Schroeckenthaler led Edgewood College with 26 points and 15 rebounds for his NACC-leading 14th double. He shot 12-of-16 from the floor. Adam Baierl tied a career-high with 19 points, going 4-of-8 from 3-point range and Eli Hartjes added 16 points and eight rebounds.

- It was a tale of two halves as both teams struggled offensively in the opening half but Edgewood College was able to take a 35-29 lead into the break. Both teams shot under 40 percent in the opening half, but both were over 50 percent in the second half, each getting the ball inside more. Aurora outscored the Eagles 46-39 in the second half and shot 53.6 percent (15-for-28) over the final 20 minutes, while Edgewood College was at 54.5 percent (18-for-33) in the second half.

- Turnovers hurt the Eagles on Wednesday as they committed 20 miscues and Aurora finished the game with a 26-8 advantage in points off turnovers.

- The Spartans were led by Terreon Hopkins who scored 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Pumphrey added 13 points and six assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SOCRE
- A win would have given the Eagles the No. 4 seed in the NACC Tournament but instead they drop to the No. 8 seed. The good news is they will still host one tournament game, welcoming No. 9 Rockford to the Todd Wehr Edgedome on Saturday.

- It was a surprising result given the Eagles success at home this season and the Spartans struggles on the road. Edgewood College entered with a 9-1 record at home and winners of nine straight, while Aurora was 1-9 on the road. It was the first NACC home loss of the season for the Eagles.

UP NEXT
- The NACC Tournament is up next for the Eagles and they will host Rockford in a first-round game on Saturday at 4 p.m. The winner of that 8/9 matchup will visit top-seeded Concordia University Chicago on Tuesday, February 22 at 7 p.m.
