MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles men's basketball squad wrapped up their 2022 slate of home games Tuesday evening. They hosted the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors at the Todd Wehr Edgedome for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) matchup. The Warriors (6-5, 4-2 NACC) never trailed the Eagles (1-9, 1-4 NACC) as they took home a 92-70 win off the back of a dominant first half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College hung around the Warriors early, trailing 13-12 at the 13:49 mark. Wisconsin Lutheran took off like a rocket for the next seven minutes, putting the Eagles in a hole they would never recover from with a 22-5 burst, taking a 35-17 lead at the 6:23 mark.
- The Warriors built up to a 44-22 lead at 3:01. An
Adam Baierl three-pointer cut the lead down to 46-27 at the 1:42 mark. Another layup from him would keep the Wisconsin Lutheran lead at 19, but a three-pointer from Ryan Broeckel found net with ticks left on the clock to send the teams to the locker room with the Warriors up 51-29.
- Wisconsin Lutheran shot 50 (7-of-14) percent from beyond the arc in the first half and 57.58 (19-of-33) percent from the field overall.
- The Warriors would hold their largest lead of the evening at 18:17 in the second half, a 6-2 early rally pushing them to a 57-31 edge. The squads would mostly exchange jabs for the rest of the first 10 minutes, as Wisconsin Lutheran led 69-49 with 10 minutes left.
- The Eagles would cut the Warriors lead down to 16 at 3:44, a Baierl three-pointer backed by a
Trey Traeder steal and fast break three cutting the lead down to 82-66. The last 2:46 of play would mostly see backups play, with a late three from Wisconsin Lutheran ensuring a 41-point second half from both teams.
- The Warriors dominated the fast break with a 14-5 advantage, and shot 41.7 (10-of-24) from beyond the arc in the game to Edgewood College's 28.6 (6-of-21) from deep.
-
Jake Schroeckenthaler lead the team with 19 points. Baierl. Traeder, and
