CHICAGO, Ill. – The Edgewood College Eagles continued their 2022-23 slate with a trip for a nonconference tilt. They played the Chicago Maroons on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles (1-7) kep pace with the Maroons (5-3) in the first half, but turnovers and fast break points lifted Chicago to an 85-72 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two squads kept pace with one another for the first five minutes before the Maroons found a 7-0 rally to push ahead 16-10 at 13:05. An 11-5 response from Edgewood College with them attacking the paint to tie it up at 21 all with 8:12 left in the half.
- The lead shifted back and forth between the two squads, with Chicago taking a 35-32 lead into halftime off of a 6-2 burst in the final minute of play. The Eagles shot 53.85 (14-of-26) from the field to the Maroons' 40 percent (12-of-30) from the field, but Chicago made 11 free throws to Edgewood College's 4, and had 11 points off of turnovers to none.
- The Eagles would continue to keep pace with the Maroons, a 9-3 rally tying up the game at 43 all at 12:50. A balanced attack would help Edgewood College hold the lead until 9:26, their last lead of the afternoon. A 16-3 run from Chicago would put them ahead 66-55 and in firm control of the game. The Maroons would finish the afternoon with their largest lead of the day, a 13-point advantage.

Jake Schroeckenthaler finished with 21 points for a game-high, while
Trey Traeder and
Caden Nelson had 13 each.
- The Maroons would finish with a 27-0 margin in points off of turnovers, and shot 28-of-41 from the charity stripe. Thomas Kurowski finished with 20 points, while Elliot Paschal had 19 points and four steals.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The loss snapped a three-game losing streak the Eagles held previously over the Maroons.
- Edgewood College is seeking their first non-conference win since December 11, 2021 in a 82-79 victory against Chicago.
UP NEXT
The Eagles play their last road Northern Collegiate Athletics Conference (NACC) match of 2022 next Saturday. They travel to Chicago, Ill. once more to face Illinois Tech with first tip scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Edgewood College leads the series against the Scarlet Hawks since 1992-93 5-3 and won the last time the two faced off.
