Eagles fall to Kohawks timely shooting

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles men's basketball squad continued their fall 2022 slate Saturday afternoon. They played host to the Coe College Kohawks at the Edgedome. The Eagles (0-4) fell to timely shooting down the stretch from the Kohawks (4-2) as they lost 54-49.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College jumped out to an early 10-6 lead at 15:56 with Jake Schroeckenthaler putting together all 10 of the points. A 10-3 Coe rally put them ahead 16-13 at the 7:59 mark.

-The Eagles would take over the next two and a half minutes with a 10-0 barrage to put themselves up seven over the Kohawks. Edgewood College would go into the locker room up 28-21 over Coe.

- The two teams combined for 1-of-10 three-pointer shooting, with the Eagles notching the only three. They also outshot the Kohawks with a 46.43 (13-of-28) field goal percentage compared to their opponents shooting only 27.59 (8-of-29) from the field in the half.

- Edgewood College built on their lead to start the second frame, an 8-3 rally pushing them to a 36-24 advantage. The 12-point lead would be their high for the afternoon, matched by a 38-26 lead at 13:09.

- Coe College would take over the next seven minutes of play. A 17-5 rally featuring a trio of threes would propel them back to a 43 all tie at 6:53. The Eagles would continue to dominate the paint and bounce back with a 47-43 lead with just over 5:07 left to play.

- The last five minutes would prove to be Kohawks minutes. They finished the afternoon on a 11-2 tear. Edgewood College's best chance game at 2:06 as they missed a jumper in the paint down just 50-49. The Eagles missed eight shots in a row as Coe padded their lead with four free throws to clinch a 54-49 victory.

- Schroeckenthaler dominated for Edgewood College, finishing with game-highs in points (20), rebounds (14), and blocks (four). No other Eagle scored more than seven points.

- Edgewood College shot 1-of-12 from beyond the arc for the game, while their rivals finished 36.4 (4-of-11) from the three-point line. The Eagles dominated in the paint to the tune of 42-22.

- Three Kohawks finished with double-digit points. TJ Schnurr had 12 points and eight rebounds with a pair of blocks, while Cael Schmitt and Greg Hall each had 11. Schmitt had three steals in the match.

- Both teams gained the lead five times and tied the score three times. Coe finished with a 7-2 advantage in fast break points and 11-6 in second chance points.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Kohawks have now won both matchups against the Eagles, including a victory at Coe in the 2021-22 season.

- Schroeckenthaler's 20 points was the second time in four games he's finished north of 20, including a 26-point performance to open the season against Dubuque. He also now has two double-doubles this season.

- Brady Biba's seven points was also his career high.

UP NEXT
The Eagles look to bounce back from a tough loss with their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) opener against Concordia Chicago next Tuesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. against the Cougars at the Edgedome. Edgewood College leads the series since 2001-2002 23-8, but Concordia Chicago has won the last two.
