MADISON, Wis. - Abby Shane now has more three-point makes than any player in Edgewood College Women's Basketball history. With her second three-pointer on Tuesday night, Shane secured her 176th career three-pointer, moving her atop the Eagles record book. Ultimately, the Eagles fell 78-65 to Aurora University on Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Abby Shane waited until the fourth period to turn on the jets, but made her shots count in the final ten minutes. The senior made her first three-point make with 8:21 on the clock to bring the Eagles within 10 points of the Spartans. Just two minutes later Shane wrote her name in the history books, connecting on a corner three-pointer, good for the record. The West Allis native brought Edgewood College (5-11, 5-4 NACC) within eight points of Aurora University (8-7, 6-3 NACC). Eight points is as close as the Eagles would get through the final ten minutes.
- Aurora came out of the gates fast on offense, shooting a game-high 55.6 percent (10-for-18) from the floor through the first period. The fast-paced Spartans took a 25-14 lead at the end of the first ten minutes and never looked back.
- Edgewood College came out of halftime determined, going on an 11-2 run to start the third period. The Eagles shot their best, 53.8 percent (7-for-13) from the floor in the period and went into the final ten minutes down by just 12 points (61-49). Â
- Five Eagles scored in double-figures on the night, Diamond Pikulyk lead the way with 13 points. Emma Klein added 12 points, while Shane and Eden Bonser both tallied 10 points for the Eagles. Claudia Fieiras notched a career-high 11 points, eight of those coming after the break.
- Edgewood College shared the ball well on Tuesday, as Pikulyk, Klein, Shane, Bonser, and Fieiras each dished out three assists. Vivian Guerrero pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds, while Pikulyk added seven of her own.
THE OPPOSITION
- Eliot Dojutrek led the Spartans with 20 points on 7-for-8 shooting from the floor. Dojutrek also pulled down six rebounds. Victoria Perry also scored in double-figures on Tuesday, collecting 13 points.
- Sam Barrett dished out four assists for Aurora, while Gabby Moore collected four steals.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
- Shane now has 176 three-pointers and moved past Shae Beckwith who recorded 175 three-point field goals from 2007-2011.
- Shane is also one game shy of tying the record for games started. Jordane Kittoe owns the record with 106 starts from 2003-2007.
UP NEXT
- The Eagles will head to Milwaukee, Wis. on Saturday to face-off against MSOE. Action from Hotchkin Arena is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
