Eagles Finish Season with Senior Day Win Over MSOE

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Baseball team won game two of Sunday's NACC doubleheader against MSOE, closing out its 2021 season with a victory. The Eagles, who won the second game 7-2 after falling in the opener, 8-3, also celebrated five seniors after the game, a great way to conclude the 2021 season.

GAME TWO – EAGLES 7, RAIDERS 2
- The story of game two was the pitching performance of Eric Nelson. The Eagles normal closer got his first start of the season and delivered 7.2 quality innings, allowing just two unearned runs. He struck out seven and allowed just five hits in his third win of the season. Will Mossa finished the game for the Eagles, pitching the final 1.1 innings.

- Edgewood College (12-25, 6-14 NACC) scored three runs in the third inning to take the lead, the first two on a double by Kyle Sagan, plating Cooper Holewinski and senior Bryan Niznik. Niznik went 2-for-2 with two runs scored in his final game as an Eagle.

- Sagan finished the game 3-for-3 to lead Edgewood College, who led 6-0 after a run in the fifth and two in the seventh. MSOE (16-13, 13-7 NACC) scored twice in the top of the eighth, but the Eagles added an insurance run in the bottom half when Niznik scored on a wild pitch.

- Joseph Kalafut added two hits for Edgewood College in game two as the Eagles collected 11 as a team. Senior Max Orput tallied a hit in the contest as well.

GAME ONE – RAIDERS
- The Eagles led 2-0 in game one after scoring twice in the top of the first but the Raiders put up eight unanswered before Edgewood College tallied a run in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI double by Kalafut.

- The big inning for MSOE was the fifth when they plated five runs to break the game open.

- Leo Stone got the start and worked four innings, allowing one run. Senior Peyton Henry pitched fine in the fifth inning, but the Eagles defense didn't help as all five of his runs were unearned. Ben Collier finished the game for Edgewood College.

- Adam Cairo and Kalafut each collected two hits. Cairo and Kyle Semrad doubled, while Kalafut had a double and a triple in the contest.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- After the game the Eagles celebrated three 2021 seniors – Niznik, Henry, and Orput, as well as two 2020 seniors in Richie Coughlin and Jacob Popp. Thank you to those five players for their contributions to the Edgewood College baseball program.
