Eagles Swept by Warriors in Home Twinbill

VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Baseball team couldn't carry momentum over from Saturday's two wins at Wisconsin Lutheran College, as the Warriors returned the favor, sweeping a NACC North Doubleheader Sunday at "The Chuck." The Eagles dropped a wild opener, 16-14, before falling 11-7 in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opener saw a combined 30 runs, 27 hits, and nine errors, but unfortunately, seven of those errors were committed by Edgewood College (11-22, 5-11 NACC North). Wisconsin Lutheran scored seven times over its last two at bats to secure the 16-14 victory.

- The Warriors (13-22, 6-10 NACC North) built a 5-0 lead before the Eagles scored five runs in the bottom of the third. Both Alex Prindle and Bryan Niznik had two-RBI singles in the frame.

- WLC again went up, taking a 9-6 lead into the seventh when the Eagles used another big inning, this one a six-run frame to take a 12-9 lead. Joseph Kalafut had one of his three RBI singles in the opener in the seventh to cap off the frame.

- The Warriors took the lead back with a four-run eighth but the Eagles tied the game with a run of their own in the bottom half before Wisconsin Lutheran outscored the Eagles, 3-1, in the ninth to secure the wild game one win. Amazingly, Wisconsin Lutheran used just two pitchers in the game and Jacob Kopplin got the win despite giving up eight runs, seven earned, over four innings. The Eagles used four pitchers, the most effective Garrett Redner, who allowed just one run and no hits over 2.2 innings pitched.

- Kalafut led the way at the plate with three hits in six trips, driving in three. Niznik also drove in three runs, while collecting two hits and Prindle finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Cooper Holewinski added two hits, including a double.

- The Eagles went up 1-0 in game two with a run in the second inning by Prindle, but the Warriors scored the next five runs and never looked back. The score was 6-4 heading into the ninth when the teams combined for eight runs, the Warriors scoring five to complete the sweep with an 11-7 win.

- Jacob Slonim led the Eagles at the plate in the nightcap, going 4-for-5 while extending his single-season home run record to 10. Kyle Sagan added two hits, including a double. Kalafut and Holewinski each delivered run-scoring doubles in game two.

- Joe Serbiak nearly went the distance for Wisconsin Lutheran but was pulled with two outs in the eighth with Hunter Martin securing the final out for his first save of the season. Josh Enevold led WLC at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance, including a double, stolen base, and four RBI.

- The Eagles used five pitchers in game two with Leo Stone being the most effective. Stone worked 2.2 innings in relief, struck out five while allowing just one run and one hit.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- It was Veterans Appreciation Day the ballpark, which included a ceremonial first pitch from Darrion Leonhart, retired Marine Corps, First Sergeant. It was great day to honor Darrin and all of our Veterans for their service.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will play a four-game weekend set against MSOE next. The first two games of the series will be at MSOE on Saturday with a noon start.
