Eagles, Muskies settle for tie

VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Soccer team continued conference play on Wednesday night with a 2-2 double overtime tie against Lakeland University. Despite two first half goals, the Eagles settled for a conference draw, unable to find the back of the net after the break

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sal Genco put the Eagles on top in the first half, scoring his first collegiate goal in the 24th minute. Just 12 minutes later Tyler Nelson connected from long, assisted by Riley Moore.

- Edgewood College (0-2-1, 0-2-1 NACC) took a 2-0 lead into the break, outshooting Lakeland University (1-1-1, 1-1-1 NACC) 14-7 in the first 45 minutes of action.

- The Eagles lead would last for long in the second half, as Kidus Samson scored for the Muskies in the 51st minute, the result of a penalty shot.

- With less than eight minutes remaining in the second half Lakeland tied the game at 2, taking advantage of a flurry of shots in front of the Eagles goal.

- Neither team was able to score through the two ten-minute overtime periods. The Eagles outshot the Muskies 2-0 in the first overtime period, while the Muskies outshot the Eagles 5-2 through the final ten minutes of action.

- Brendon Martin was crucial in the second period for the Eagles, recording all five of his saves to help send the Eagles into overtime.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will head on the road for the first time this season, taking on Marian University on Sunday. Conference action is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Fond du Lac.
