Hartjes' Career Night leads Eagles over NACC Pre-Season Favorite

MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College Men's Basketball teak entered Saturday in search of a win. The Eagles got just that in holding on for an 80-68 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran College behind a career night from Eli Hartjes. Jake Schroeckenthaler added a double-double in the first victory of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (1-5, 1-1 NACC) jumped out to a 24-8 lead just 10 minutes into the first half of action. A 12-0 run that featured Eli Hartjes, Avery Lyons and Adam Baierl was a huge spark for the Eagles offense in one of their best halves of the season. At the break, Edgewood College led Wisconsin Lutheran 6-2, 1-1 NACC) 40-34.

- The Edgewood College lead was built on 53.1 percent (17-for-32) shooting from the floor through the first 20 minutes of action. In addition, the Eagles took advantage of their three-point shots, making 2-of-3 for 66.7 percent in the first half.

-  The Eagles stayed consistent through the majority of the second half, but the Warriors made things interesting with just 7:23 remaining. An 8-1 run from the Warriors reduced the Eagles lead to just three points, but strong defense and consistent free-point shooting gave the Eagles the edge in the end. Edgewood College connected on 13-of-14 (92.9 percent) from the charity stripe in the second half, while Wisconsin Lutheran only knocked down 10-of-14 (71.4 percent) free-throws.

- The Edgewood College starting five were dominant on Saturday evening, as only one player, Danny Mulcare scored off the bench. Eli Hartjes knocked down a career-high 35 points and pulled down a best 18 rebounds for a double-double. The Senior also added three blocks. Hartjes was perfect from the charity stripe, going 10-for-10 on the evening.
