Eagles Fall to Sixth-Ranked Thunder at Music City Classic

GALLATIN, Tenn. – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team faced another challenging non-conference opponent on Thursday, falling to No. 6 Wheaton College at the Music City Classic, 79-61.

THUNDER 79, EAGLES 61
- It was another solid showing for the Eagles (3-7) frontcourt of Jake Schroeckenthaler and Eli Hartjes as the duo combined for 37 points and 18 rebounds. Hartjes flirted with a triple-double, scoring 15 points to go along with 11 rebounds and eight assists. Schroeckenthaler added a team-best 22 points, while pulling down seven rebounds.

- The Eagles couldn't slow down Tyson Cruickshank of Wheaton (11-2) as he poured in a game-high 33 points, while adding eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. Cruickshank shot 12-of-19 from the floor and 5-of-7 from 3-point range. He made more 3-pointers than the Eagles (2) did as a team.

- Preseason All-American Nyameye Adom added 19 points for the Thunder, while Cade Alioth scored 10 points.

- Edgewood College hung with the No. 6 team in the land for much of the first half, trailing by 11 at the break. Hartjes (13) and Schroeckenthaler (12) combined for 25 points in the opening half. But in the second half, Cruickshank took over with 28 points in over the final 20 minutes.

- The Eagles shot 40.3 percent from the floor for the game but struggled from distance with a 2-for-11 effort. Both Avery Lyons and Adam Baierl chipped in with eight points for Edgewood College with Lyons knocking down 2-of-4 from 3-point range.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Thursday's game was the final non-conference game of the regular season for the Eagles, who faced a very difficult slate over their seven non-league games. Edgewood College battled three teams who were ranked in the top 25 when they played them, Dubuque and UW-Oshkosh the others.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will turn their attention to 2022 where they are set to play 15 NACC games to close out the regular season. Edgewood College holds a 2-1 league record thus far and will begin the NACC-only stretch on Wednesday at Benedictine with a 7 p.m. start.
