Cougars hold off Eagles in first NACC Setback

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College Women's Basketball team dropped its sixth-straight game, 74-73 against Concordia University Chicago in the 2021-22 conference opener on Tuesday night. The Eagles led for most of the contest, but the Cougars roared back and help on for the close conference win. Four Eagles finished with career-high marks, with double-doubles for Emma Klein and Vivian Guerrero.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (0-6, 0-1 NACC) led by nine heading into the final 10 minutes of action, but the strong three-point shooting from Concordia Chicago (2-3, 1-1 NACC) reduced the Eagles lead slowly. The Cougars and Eagles traded the lead back and forth through the final 2 minutes, but with just 30 seconds left Concordia Chicago took the lead and never looked back.

- The Eagles offense came into the second period ready to go with a 14-2 run started by Claudia Fieiras with 5:41 on the clock. Edgewood College would shoot a game high 43.75 percent (7-for-16) in the second period in building a 36-29 lead going into the break.

- The largest lead came for Edgewood College four times in the third period, as Guerrero and Klein combined for 12 of the Eagles 19 points.

- Klein was the Eagles main source of offense as she finished the night with a career-high 23 points on 6-of-15 shooting. Klein was perfect from the charity stripe, knocking down 11-of-11. Klein also added a career-high 14 rebounds on route to another double-double.

- Guerrero collected her second career double-double with a career-high 14 points and 10 rebounds. Eden Bonser went 3-for-10 from the floor and collected nine points for the Eagles. Emma Raupp and Claudia Fieiras were critical for the Eagles, both scoring a career-high seven points. Six of Fieiras' points came in the second period.

- The Eagles finished shooting 37.9 percent (25-for-66) from the floor. In addition, Edgewood College managed 12 steals in the contest, a season high.

THE OPPOSITION
- Five Cougars scored in double-figures on Tuesday night, led by 19 points from Bailey Steinkamp. Prentciss Gates wasn't far behind with 14 points. Mikalah Ellis and Ava Gardner added 12 points each while Jaylene Wade collected 10 points.

- Concordia Chicago shot well on the night, finishing with a 40.6 (28-for-69) percentage from the floor. The Cougars shot lights out from beyond the arc, connecting on 7-of-12 for 58.3 percent.

- The Eagles will host Wisconsin Lutheran College as part of a women's/men's doubleheader. Action will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Todd Wehr Edgedome
