MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Tennis team won five-of-six in singles play to remain undefeated in conference play with a 7-2 win over MSOE on Saturday. The Eagles clinched a share of the NACC title and are now one win away from another outright crown.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (8-4, 8-0 NACC) won two-of-three in doubles play. The No. 1 duo of Cecile Fuchs and Ally Verbauwhede remained perfect in NACC play by posting an 8-2 win.
- The No. 2 duo of Alyssa Carew and Ellie Murphy earned their seventh win of the season with a commanding 8-0 final. The result gives Carew her 69th doubles win, enough to pass Kelsey Steinhorst (2006-10) for the most doubles wins in program history. Carew also added a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, and is now one win back of the all-time wins record, singles and doubles combined.
- In singles play, Fuchs finished off her day 2-0 with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win. Verbauwhede, Murphy, and Carew also posted a 2-0 day. Verbauwhede earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, while Murphy posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
- Maddy Coopmans added a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the No. 5 singles slot.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College adds another NACC regular season win, as their streak improves to 38 matches, just the second-longest streak of all time. The Eagles also own the longest streak, winning 47-straight matches from 2011-15.
- The Eagles are just one match away from a four-peat for the NACC regular season crown. A win on Sunday against Concordia Chicago would give them another outright title, while a loss would result in a shared championship.
