Eagles season closes with draw

VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Soccer team closed out the 2021 season with a 3-3 draw against Marian University on Wednesday night. On the coldest night of the season, the Eagles put up a battle through 110 minutes at Edgewood College Field. The careers of Tyler Nelson, Jared Podnar, and Brian Root were celebrated.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (0-14-1, 0-11-1 NACC) and Marian University (5-11-1, 2-9-1 NACC) went into halftime knotted a one. The Sabres scored first, as Drew Cowden found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. Tyler Nelson netted his first goal of the evening in the 39th minute, assisted by Noah Mesdjian to tie things up at one.

- The contest remained tied up at one until the 61st minute, when Sal Genco scored on a pass from Mesdjian to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. Nelson would score again in the 73rd minute, making a run from midfield count to put Edgewood College up 3-1 halfway through the second half.

- Marian wasn't done yet, as their offense scored twice in the final four minutes to send the contest into overtime. Chris Nelson notched the second Sabres goal while Giuliano Corazzina scored the third goal in the 89th minute.

- Neither team could get much going in both overtime periods, as the Sabres took 5 shots and the Eagles 2 in the first 10 minutes of extra time. The Sabres outshot the Eagles 3-0 in the final 10 minutes of action.

- Nelson headlined the Eagles offense, taking six shots, three on goal, and scoring twice in the contest. Root added five shots, two on goal.

- Eagles goalkeeper Jack Gentner recorded 13 saves on the night, six coming in the second half of action. Kevin Cervantes notched six saves for the Sabres.

- The match was the final of the season for the Eagles.
