MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team dropped its second-straight game, this one a 67-65 thriller against Loras in the 2020-21 home opener on Monday night. The Eagles led for most of the opening 30 minutes, but Loras roared back and held on for the close non-conference win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (2-2) had the ball down two with 17 seconds left after Rowan McGowen made 1-of-2 at the line to make it a two-point game (67-65).
Jake Negus drove hard to the basket twice, but could not get the foul call both times on the last possession. After Negus' second attempt, the ball bounced out of bounds as time expired, allowing the Duhawks to escape with the two-point win.
- The game was tie several times down the stretch, including the last deadlock coming at 63-63 with 2:27 remaining. Loras (1-1) would score the next three points over a 1:24 span, all three coming from McGowen.
Jake Schroeckenthaler put in a turnaround jump shot with 33 seconds left to make the score 66-65, before McGowen's one free throw with 17 seconds left pushed the Duhawks back up two.
- The Eagles came out ready to go with a 19-6 run to open the game on Monday evening. Edgewood College would shoot 46.67 percent (14-for-30) in the first half in building a 36-30 lead.
- Schroeckenthaler was the Eagles main source of offense down the stretch as he finished the night with a game-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
Jake Graf added 15 points, as he has scored in double figures in three-straight games for Edgewood College.
Matthew Myers added 11 points.

Avery Lyons did a good job running the Eagles offense on Monday evening with a season-best seven assists. Lyons also led the team with eight rebounds.
- The Eagles finished shooting 44.8 percent (26-for-58) from the floor and 29.4 percent (5-for-17) from 3-point range. Graf made 3-of-5 from 3-point range and 6-of-9 from the field. Loras shot worse in both areas, 40. 6 percent (26-for-64) from the floor and 17.2 percent (5-for-29) from long distance.
- The Duhawks did win the turnover battle on Monday, committing 10 turnovers to 15 by Edgewood College.
THE OPPOSITION
- Cole Navigato was one of three Duhawks to score in double figures, leading a balanced attack with 14 points and seven rebounds. McGowen added 12 points.
