Construction Underway for the New Reddan Soccer Pitch

MADISON, Wis. – In November, Edgewood College announced it would have a new home for its Men's and Women's Soccer and Lacrosse programs – located at Reddan Park in Verona. Construction for the new project, which features a unique partnership between Edgewood College and the Madison Area Youth Soccer Association (MAYSA), is now under way with the project expected to be completed by August 15.

In late April, the Edgewood College Executive Board of Directors gave official approval for construction to begin. The facility will not only host games for the four Eagle sports, but will also serve as the sole practice venue.

"This is incredibly exciting for the College and the student-athletes who can call this home!" said Al Brisack, Director of Athletics at Edgewood College. "Having one location for practices and competitions will be a much-earned treat after utilizing seven different facilities over the last few years.  Making this commitment through a partnership with MAYSA is an added bonus.  Our missions align and lots of kids are going to benefit by the space itself and, the daily presence of our student-athletes who are amazing sport ambassadors and role-models.  We can't wait for this beautiful facility to be the backdrop for us to showcase our historically successful soccer teams and the region's only collegiate lacrosse teams!"

One of the great aspects of the project is how it shows the strength of community and partnership, both key traits for Edgewood College and MAYSA. MAYSA will use the facility to expand tournament offerings and league play.

"This project is emblematic of not only Edgewood College's commitment to community, but MAYSA as well," said Chris Lay, Executive Director of MAYSA. "Our members are very excited. And it has struck me that Edgewood College alumni are extremely active in our organization as coaches, administrators, club leaders and enthusiastic parents.  Our organization, and now our facility, have benefited from Edgewood College. We are extremely grateful."

The new facility will be fully lighted with a synthetic turf pitch and will be the first project Edgewood College has embarked on for outdoor, varsity sports. It will impact over 100 total Edgewood College student-athletes each year, providing the Eagles a true home turf. The Eagles will also be able to run camps at Reddan, which grow their sports and community involvement in the Madison area.

The new Reddan pitch will impact thousands of youth athletes, both in the Madison area, and those who come to the area for youth tournaments and showcases.  MAYSA anticipates being able to facilitate more games tournament and league games due to the durability of playing surface, along with the lights.

In addition to being fully lighted, the new Eagles and MAYSA home will feature an elevated free-standing press box with enclosed storage below, team shelters for up to 40 participants, lacrosse shot clocks at both ends of the field, a 13'X18' scoreboard, a complete sound and PA system, spectator seating for 250 people, complete safety netting systems for both end-lines, and hi-speed wireless internet capabilities for streaming of Eagles contests and sports medicine work.

The field will be located at 6874 Cross Country Rd in Verona.

Once the new facility is constructed and games and matches are underway, a Grand Opening Celebration will be planned for the fall. Currently, the plan is for the opening to take place in October.

Stay tuned for more updates on the construction of the new facility as the summer moves along.
