Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Eagles headed to NACC Championship after dominant win over Warriors

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Basketball team is headed to the NACC Championship game after a dominant performance in Friday night's semifinal matchup against Wisconsin Lutheran College. The Eagles jumped out to a 14-0 lead and never looked back in a 79-57 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The win advances the Eagles to Sunday's championship game at top-seeded Benedictine. The winner of that game will receive the NACC's automatic bid to the 2020 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament.

- When these two teams met six days ago, Edgewood College didn't score until 3:55 into the game and they trailed 15-5 after one quarter of play. The Eagles (24-2) made sure they started strong on Friday, erupting for a 14-0 run to begin the game. Both Abby Shane and Alyssa Lemirande buried shots from 3-point range during the opening stretch, while Lexi Walter added the final four points of the run.

- The Eagles maintained a big lead for much of the first half, including going up 19 (28-9) with 7:05 left in the second quarter. That is when Wisconsin Lutheran (18-9) made its first push, a 15-6 stretch to cut the Edgewood College lead to 34-24 with two minutes left in the half.

- Winning the final two minutes would be crucial for momentum heading into the break, and the Eagles did just that with a 5-0 run to close the half. Bria Lemirande made a huge 3-point shot with 1:22 left, while Mia Edwards closed the half with an easy layup off an Alyssa Lemirande assist.

- Wisconsin Lutheran would get no closer than 14 in the second half as Edgewood College made a statement Friday night. If the outcome wasn't already in doubt, Shane buried two 3-point shots in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter to put an exclamation point on the win, while also making the Edgedome as loud as it's been all season.

- After shooting 26.6 percent in Saturday's win, the Eagles were back to their normal ways offensively on Friday night. They made 15-of-27 (55.6 percent) in the first half and finished the game shooting 53.7 percent (29-for-54). They also connected on 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) from 3-point range with Shane going a perfect 3-for-3 from deep.

- As has been the case all year, the Eagles were balanced in the semifinal win. Alyssa Lemirande led the way with 15 points and nine assists, while her sister Bria recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Walter was outstanding as well, tying Alyssa Lemirande with a team-best 15 points to go along with six rebounds. Walter shot 5-for-8 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the foul line. Diamond Pikulyk scored 12 points in just 14 minutes, making 5-of-6 from the floor, while adding five boards.

- The Eagles played incredible on both ends, holding the Warriors to 33.8 percent (22-for-65) shooting. Edgewood College also won the rebound battle, 40-35, and the points in the paint battle, 44-28.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College is appearing in its second NACC Championship (the league began in 2006-07). The Eagles also made the title game in 2007-08, falling to Wisconsin Lutheran, 76-56.

- Edgewood College became just the second team in the past 10 years to beat Wisconsin Lutheran in the NACC Tournament. The Warriors have won eight of the past nine league tournaments, with their only other NACC Tournament loss coming against Concordia Wisconsin in the 2017 semifinals, 76-66.

THE OPPOSITION
- Kelly Tramburg closed her impressive career with the Warriors with a game-high 17 points. Jenna Mace added 11 for Wisconsin Lutheran.

UP NEXT
- The NACC Tournament title game will be a battle of the Eagles and is set for a 3 p.m. start on Sunday at Benedictine.
