WINONA, Minn. – After tying up the contest at one a piece in the 85th minute, the Edgewood College women's soccer team fell to Saint Mary's University in the 89th minute of a 2-1 defeat in the season opener for both teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After 32 minutes of scoreless play, Jordyn Matthews found the back of the net, giving Saint Mary's a 1-0 lead that lasted through most of the second half.
- Despite a second half in which the Cardinals dominated possession, Edgewood College tied things up in the 86th minute. The Eagles offense was able to catch a break as time winded down, as Madelyn Peach scored the first goal of the season.
- With the second half quickly winding down the Cardinals capitalized on a corner kick. Mary Loy scored Saint Mary's second goal of the match, the crucial game winner.
- The Eagles were outshot 18-3 by the Cardinals in the contest, as Peach, Carolyn Evers, and Aubrey Tarmann each took one shot.
- Grace Wildeboer recorded the only saves of the contest, registering eight.
