MIDDLETON, Wis. - The No. 4 seeded Edgewood College Men's Tennis team made quick work of No. 5 seed Aurora University with a 5-3 win in the first round of the NACC tournament on Monday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After beating Aurora 6-3, on April 13, the Eagles held strong once again and clinched their eighth straight NACC semifinals berth.
- Jackson Venske and Tommy Ebben earned the first win of the afternoon for the Eagles, with a decisive 8-1 match in the No. 2 doubles slot. Marius Dornhagen Schradermeier and Sabastion Seeger pulled out an 8-3 victory in the No. 3 doubles slot.
- In singles play, Seeger in the No. 2 slot and Venske at No. 3 both gained wins with a significant 6-1, 6-1 score.
- Dornhagen Schradermeier clinched the victory for the Eagles at the No. 1 slot, pulling through with a 6-1, 6-4 win.
- All three wins for Aurora University came by default at No. 3 doubles, No. 5 singles, and No. 6 singles.
- The No. 4 singles match between Ebben and Freeman Rosencrans went unfinished after the Dornhagen Schradermeier victory at No. 1 singles. As it stood, Ebben was battling through the tiebreaker 6-1, 1-6, (1-2).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- For the second year in a row, the Eagles will advance to the NACC Semifinals after beating Aurora. In 2018 Edgewood College beat Aurora 6-1.
NEXT UP
- The No. 4 seeded Eagles advance to play in the NACC Semifinals at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison this Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Edgewood College will face off against the winner of the first round match between No. 6 Dominican and No. 3 MSOE. The winner of the semifinal match will face the other semifinal winner later on Sunday afternoon.
