MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Tennis team wanted to open the NACC season on a winning note and they were able to do just that on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles edged Dominican University, 5-4, to start off NACC play with a 1-0 record in a match played at the Powless Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles won five of six matches played and dropped the other three via default in the thrilling NACC win.
Marius Dornhagen Schradermeier,
Sabastion Seeger, and
Tommy Ebben all won both their matches on Saturday in the 5-4 win.
- The Eagles began the day with wins in the two doubles matches played and took a 2-1 lead into singles play. Dornhagen Schradermeier and Seeger rolled to an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles to set the tone for Edgewood College (3-9, 1-0 NACC).
- Ebben and
Jackson Venske picked up an 8-6 doubles win to give the Eagles the advantage heading into singles play.
- In singles play, Dornhagen Schradermeier, Seeger, and Ebben all won, while Venske forced a third-set tiebreaker at No. 3 singles.
- Dornhagen Schradermeier posted a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles, while Seeger went 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 singles match. Ebben won his first set 6-4, before cruising, 6-0 in set two.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- It was the eighth-straight win for the Eagles in the all-time series against the Stars. Edgewood College lost the first-two meetings between the two schools (both in 2011) before posting the eight-mathc winning streak.
