MADISON, Wis – The Edgewood College Men's Soccer team closed out the 2019 season with a 2-0 loss to Wisconsin Lutheran College. On the coldest night of the season, the Eagles put up a battle through the constant snow at Breese Stevens Field. The careers of Brandyn Storhoff, Michael Bravick, Sean Surtees, and Victor Lombardino were celebrated, as well as the Eagles team manager Santi Elbow.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (6-13-1, 3-8 NACC) and Wisconsin Lutheran College (6-9-1, 2-7-1 NACC) remained scoreless at halftime. The Warriors outshot the Eagles 9-5 through the first half of competition, but ultimately, defense headlines the first 45 minutes for both teams.
- The contest remained scoreless until the 74th minute, when Jason Cano found the right corner of the net, assisted by Alex Rivera.
- The Eagles couldn't catch a break, despite strong offensive opportunities in the second half. In the 83rd minute Mario Caldwell scored the Warriors second goal off a cross from Jason Cano.
- Despite being shutout, the Eagles matched the Warriors time spent on the attack, as both teams owned possession 17% of the time in and around the box.
- Brian Root and Sean Surtees headlined the Eagles offense, both taking five shots in the contest. Victor Lombardino wasn't far behind with two close shots of his own.
- Eagles goalkeeper Brandyn Storhoff recorded six fantastic saves on the night, while Erek Lehnen matched Storhoff for the Warriors.
- The match was the final of the season for the Eagles under first-year head coach Romaric Setodji.
