Benedictine scores OT winner to down Edgewood College

LISLE, Ill. - The Edgewood College Men's Soccer team fell 3-2 to Benedictine University in overtime. In the battle of the Eagles, two strong second half goals weren't enough, as Benedictine scored the winning goal just seven minutes into overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (5-8-1, 2-4 NACC) found an offensive spark in the second half of competition on Saturday, scoring twice in the two minutes to take a 2-1 lead in the 59th minute.

- Victor Lombardino found the back of the net first for Edgewood College, sending the ball sailing into the top right corner of the goal off a pass from Sean Surtees. Just two minutes later, Brian Root gave Edgewood College the lead, scoring unassisted. Incredibly enough, Edgewood College was able to produce both goals after losing a player as a result of a red card.

- Benedictine University (5-5-1, 5-1 NACC) evened the score in the 77th minute, as Lukasz Sulka scored off a penalty kick.

- The other two Benedictine goals came in the first half as Aldreiron Smith scored in the 20th minute, and Alex Pillath sent the game winner just past the hands of Edgewood College goalie Brandyn Storhoff in the 98th minute.

- Overall both teams were quite evenly matched, as Benedictine University only outshot Edgewood College by four (20-16).

- Goalkeeper Brendon Martin recorded six saves for Edgewood College while Brandyn Storhoff recorded one save in overtime. Martin Jimenez-Estrada came away with seven saves for Benedictine University.

- Edgewood College returns home to take on Lakeland University on Wednesday. Conference action is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Breese Stevens Field.
