ELMHURST, Ill. – In their final non-conference game of the season, the Edgewood College men's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Elmhurst College team. The Bluejays hit 63.3 percent from the field in the first half on their way to an 87-60 victory over the Eagles.
Edgewood College (4-8) scored the first basket of the game on a layup by Emil Radisevic, but Elmhurst used a 12-1 run midway through the first half to stake a 28-14 lead. A three-pointer by McClain Steffens and pair of baskets by Ben Seefeld brought the Eagles back to within nine points, Elmhurst College (9-3) would make six of their final seven shots of the first half, including four three-pointers to pull ahead 51-27 at the break.
The Eagles battled back from a 30-point deficit in the second half, and trimmed the Bluejays lead to 73-51 on a three-point play and a three-point shot by Arik Anderson, sandwiched around another Radisevic bucket, but the Eagles wouldn't get any closer.
Radisevic led the Eagles with 16 points on 7-for-9 shooting and four rebounds. Seefeld and Anderson tallied 12 points each, with Anderson sinking a pair of three-pointers. Steffens had a team-high four assists as the Eagles had just eight turnovers for the game. The Eagles played without leading scorer senior Travis Kell.
Elmhurst had four players in double figures, led by a monster game from Jeremy Ireland who scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds. The Bluejays shot 58.9 percent from the field for the game and outrebounded the Eagles 42-17.
Edgewood College returns to action on Saturday in a key NACC game against Wisconsin Lutheran College. The Warriors are coming off an 80-74 victory at Concordia Wisconsin on Wednesday night. Tipoff at WLC's Recreation Complex is at 2:00 p.m.
