MEQUON, Wis. - The Edgewood College softball team suffered a pair of tough losses to current NACC leader Concordia Wisconsin, 8-3 and 18-0, on Saturday afternoon.
A night after registering a season-high 12 hits in win over Maranatha, the Eagles (4-28, 1-15 NACC) struggled against Concordia Wisconsin's Emily Brekke, arguably the best pitcher in the NACC. She leads the NACC with a 0.57 ERA in conference play and limited the Eagle offense to one hit in game one and tossed a 5.0 inning no-hitter in game two.
In game one defeat, the Eagle bats mustered four hits, with three of those coming against reliever Molly O'Connell. After going down 8-0 through the first four innings, the Eagles added three runs thanks to a wild pitch, a throwing error, and an RBI ground out by
Grace Delleman across the fifth and sixth innings. Starting pitcher
Shannon Whitmus (4-22) registered two of the team's four hits, but took the loss on the mound after giving up 15 hits and six earned runs.
The Eagles allowed the Falcons (25-7, 14-2 NACC) to score eight runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to an 18-0 defeat. It was the Eagles largest defeat of the conference season as they struck out six times and were no-hit by Brekke. Despite the losses, they still lead the all-time series against the Falcons, 36-28.
