MEQUON, Wis. – With a chance to clinch at least a share of the NACC title, Concordia University Wisconsin raced out to an early lead and defeated the Edgewood College women's basketball team 72-53 on Tuesday night. The Eagles fell behind by 13 points after one period and played from behind the rest of the night in their final road game of the 2015-16 season.
The Falcons jumped in front of Edgewood College (6-18, 5-14 NACC) 17-4 to open the game and led 24-11 at the end of the first period. The Eagles used a 6-0 run early in the second to trim the Falcons lead back to single digits. Jazmin Little scored a pair of free throws in-between layups from Rachel Pope. However, Concordia University Wisconsin (19-5, 16-3 NACC) scored 11 of the next 14 points. Little's driving layup brought Edgewood College back within 37-22 at halftime.
The Eagles posted their highest single quarter total of the game in the third with 19 points. Allison Gordon scored all seven of her points in the third period, by going 5-for-6 at the free throw line. The Falcons led by as many as 27 points in the fourth quarter, until Hannah Euting capped an 8-0 Eagle run to end the game with back-to-back layups.
Senior Jazmin Little led the Eagles in scoring with 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting. Pope added nine points and two assists. Cole Jordee also had nine points and shared team-high rebounding honors with Sierra Jiran with four boards apiece. The Eagles shot 34 percent for the game, but took advantage of 28 trips to the free throw line, making 19 free throws.
Concordia Wisconsin received a double-double from Brianna Wagner with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Marciarae Harmon also reached double figures with 13 points. The Falcons shot 47.5 percent from the field but struggled taking care of the ball as Edgewood College collected 13 steals.
Edgewood College will conclude their season on Saturday at the Edgedome with a 4:15 game against Aurora University. The Eagles will honor their three seniors, Zoey Dougherty, Jazmin Little and Rachel Pope in a pre-game ceremony.
