Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pointers' three-point onslaught downs Eagles

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – A huge first half run was too much for the Edgewood College men's basketball team against UW-Stevens Point. The Pointers opened up a 35-point halftime lead on their way to a 95-43 victory in the Eagles final game before Christmas.

Edgewood College (2-6) overcame an early deficit by hitting three-point baskets on three straight possessions. The Eagles trailed 12-3 when Adam Freitag connected from long range and McClain Steffens hit a pair of triples to keep the Eagles close at 15-12. However, UW-Stevens Point (5-3) exploded to score 30 of the next 34 points and take a nearly insurmountable 53-18 lead into halftime. The Pointers shot 64.5 percent in the first half, including 11 three-point baskets.

In the second half, Tyler Lemke scored seven points and Kyle Geiger came off the bench to score five, but the Eagles couldn't cut into UWSP's lead. Edgewood College committed just nine turnovers in the game, but hit only 31.3 percent from the field.

Three Eagles, Lemke, Steffens and Emil Radisevic, shared high scoring honors with eight points apiece. Freitag chipped in seven points. Lemke had a team-high five rebounds.

MJ Delmore scored a game-high 18 points for the Pointers, who hit 15 three-point baskets and shot 59.3 percent for the game. Zack Goedeke and Ethan Bublitz added 14 and 12 points, respectively. The Pointers held a 40-20 advantage in rebounding.

Edgewood College's next games will take place on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. The Eagles will fly south after Christmas for two games at the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla. Edgewood College will face Clark University (Mass.) on December 28 and Ursinus College (Pa.) on December 30.
