PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team wrapped up their 2016 regular season on a cold night with a 0-0 double overtime tie against UW-Platteville. Edgewood College will now turn their attention to the NACC Tournament and the opportunity to earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
Edgewood College (13-4-1) nearly won the game in regulation, when Emily Skaer played Stevie Grable through as the clock was winding down, but Grable sliding shot was saved by UW-Platteville goalkeeper Alyssa Sickler to force overtime. The Pioneers had two shots in the second overtime, but Sabelle Seabrook turned both of them back to preserve the tie.
UW-Platteville (6-10-1) outshot the Eagles 18-4. Grable, Skaer, Alisha Nolden and Mariah Walton were credited with the Eagles' shots. Seabrook was credited with three saves in securing her ninth shutout of the season. The game was the Eagles first tie and first scoreless tie in over two years. The Eagles last tie was a 0-0 match against Webster University in the 2014 season opener.
Edgewood College will receive a bye into the semifinals of the NACC Tournament which begins on Saturday with a pair of first round games. Edgewood College, seeded second, will play on Tuesday at 7:00 at Breese Stevens Field. The Eagles will face third-seed Dominican University if the Stars defeat sixth-seed Benedictine University on Saturday. If Benedictine wins, then the Eagles will get the winner of fourth-seed Aurora and fifth-seed Concordia Chicago.
