PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team saw its two-game winning streak come to an end with a 69-56 loss at Lakeland College. The Muskies scored the first basket of the game and led start to finish in defeating the Eagles for the second time this season.
Lakeland College (8-8, 7-4 NACC) opened an 11-2 lead after the first five minutes of the game, until Rachel Pope converted a steal and a layup and followed it by making one of two free throws a minute later. Sierra Jiran scored a short jumper on the next possession to bring the Eagles back to within four points, but the Muskies ended the period with an 18-9 lead.
Edgewood College (4-12, 3-8 NACC) trailed 32-13 in the second period before holding the Muskies without a field goal during a 9-2 run. Kortni Kohl scored two baskets and Jazmin Little hit a three-pointer in the run. Jiran's three pointer early in the third period pulled the Eagles within 11 points at 41-30, but the Eagles would not get any closer the rest of the way. Edgewood College went on to outscore the Muskies 19-10 in the fourth period to close the final margin.
Jiran led all scorers with 16 points, going 7-for-12 from the field. Pope was the only other Eagle in double figures with 15 points. Kohl matched her career-high with eight points for the third time this season. Allison Gordon and Cole Jordee each had a team-high eight rebounds. Little had five assists. The Eagles shot 38.2 percent for the game.
Lakeland College received 13 points each from Trista Barron and Kayla Clark. Maddy Doll pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. The Muskies shot 50 percent from the field and made six three-pointers.
Edgewood College returns home on Saturday to attempt to get back on the winning track. The Eagles face Dominican University at 4:15 p.m. at the Edgedome.
