PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Two goals in a two-minute span late in the first half was all UW-Platteville needed in a 3-0 victory over the Edgewood College men's soccer team on Tuesday night. The Eagles' Ethan Schneider made a career-high 11 saves for the Eagles in their final non-conference match of the season.
Edgewood College (5-9) stayed strong through most of the first half, holding off 16 shots from the Pioneers. Luke Miller nearly put the Eagles on the board first when his shot rang the goalpost in the seventh minute of play. Less than 90 seconds later Zander Rothering let loose a shot that carried high.
UW-Platteville (7-3-3) notched the go-ahead goal in the 39th minute after the Eagles were called for a foul in the box. UWP's Jon Stopple converted the penalty kick for a 1-0 lead. Two minutes later Brad Strobel scored on a loose ball in the box to put the Pioneers ahead 2-0. Logan Rinderknecht tallied in the 67th minute to complete the scoring.
Miller and Rothering accounted for the Eagles' two shots, while Ethan Schneider did the heavy lifting in goal, making 11 saves.
Edgewood College will return to NACC action with hopes of postseason berth in mind on Saturday. The Eagles will host Lakeland College in an 11:00 a.m. match at Breese Stevens Field.
